Spring has sprung!

Here in the Colorado mountains, we still have snow, but it is officially springtime. Here are few fascinating facts about this season:s:

  • Spring fever is real! When the temperature rises during the warm spell after a long winter, there is a dilation of the blood vessels so blood can be carried to the body surface where heat can be lost quickly. People experience an energetic feeling when this happens.
  • Benjamin Franklin was the first to propose daylight savings time in 1784. It wasn’t fully implemented until the end of the Second World War
  • The first spring flowers are typically daffodils, dandelions, lilies, tulips, iris and lilacs.
  •  Baby birds learn to sing during spring. Although they are born with the ability to sing, they must learn the specific songs of their species. They often learn their songs within two months of being born.
  • The birthstone for March is the aquamarine.
  • The birth flower for March is daffodil.

  1. Living in a part of the country that goes dormant during the winter, I love the freshness and promise of spring. The resilience of my crocus and tulip bulbs and the great splash of joyful color of the daffodils always brings a smile.

    1. Hi Linda,
Yes, I understand completely. Here in Colorado we have snow on the ground. On Thursday it was 63 and now it’s in the 30’s and it has snowed all day. So ready to see our tulips and daffodils blooming. Have a great weekend and thanks for reading my books.

    1. Hi Sally,
I love the sound of the birds as well. I’m ready to open the windows and have the fresh breeze blowing in and the birds chirping in the trees. Soon…right now we have snow again. Have a great weekend and thanks for reading my books.

    1. Hi Holly,
When we lived in Texas, the Spring was my favorite season. Summer was too hot. Fall didn’t arrive until November, sometimes December. Winter was actually colder than here in Colorado sometimes. If we have sunshine, it can be in the thirties and feel more like fifties to sixties. I love it. Have a fabulous weekend and thanks for reading my books.

  2. I love the warmer tempts and seeing the flowers in bloom. I love tulips but never had any luck with them.

    1. Hi Quilt Lady,
You’ve been a loyal reader for many years. Thank you!! I recognize your name. Everyone has said warmer temps and seeing the flowers bloom. We woke up to two inches of snow this morning, so we’re not receiving either just yet. Again, thanks for being a loyal reader. I so appreciate you. Have a great weekend.

    1. Hi JS,
Planting is fun. I love to see how the plants grow and spread through the garden area. We’re not ready to start yet, even though I would love to be outside cleaning the flower beds and getting ready. Instead we woke up to two inches of fresh snow this morning. Have a great weekend and thanks for reading my books.

      1. Hi Lori,
We have a lot of crisp air here. But the green hasn’t arrived yet this Spring and I’m so ready for it to show up. Have a fabulous weekend and thanks for reading my books.

    1. Hi Karen,
The most popular response has been the warmer weather and spring flowers. I’m ready to see our trees with blooms on them and the daffodils and tulip bulbs flowering. But right now we have snow. So not yet. Have a fabulous weekend and thanks for reading my books.

    1. Hi Ann,
I can’t wait for the flowers to begin to bloom and to work out in the flower beds. Right now we have snow on the ground, so we’re not outside yet. But soon. Thanks for reading my books and have a fabulous weekend.

    1. Hi Janie,
I love warm weather as well, but not hot. We don’t have A/C and I don’t like it when it gets above ninety. Right now we have snow on the ground. Have a fabulous weekend and thanks for reading my books.

    1. Hi Mary,
We don’t have floral parks here. Not that I’m aware of. But we do have forest and national parks surround us. We’re waiting for them to open the trails back up, so we can go hiking again. But it won’t be until May. Right now we have snow on the ground again. Have a fabulous weekend and thanks for reading my books.

    1. Hi Nigel,
I love walks any time of the year. Even in winter, through the snow, though it is much harder then. I don’t like walks when it’s hot outside. Then all I want to do is stay in the house. Have a fabulous weekend and thanks so much for reading my books.

  3. I love the spring flowers coming into bloom as well — and I’m quite aware about the deer loving tulips, it’s the reason I don’t plant tulips (or hosta) in my yard.

    1. Hi Sandy,
My husband loves tulips, and he just won’t give up. Every year, just about the time they bloom, the deer make them a snack. But he keeps trying. Thanks so much for reading my books and have a fabulous weekend.

    1. Hi Lori,
I’m so ready for our trees to bud out and bloom. We have a hackberry tree that is gorgeous in the Spring. But today, we had snow, so it’s not ready to bloom just yet. Have a fabulous weekend and thanks for reading my books.

  4. Love everything about spring! New, fresh, and full of possibilities. I look forward to it every year!

    1. Hi Sandra,
Spring is full of new beginnings, and I love the idea of possibilities. It’s my second favorite time of year. Fall is my first, just because fall in Colorado is gorgeous. Have a wonderful weekend and thanks so much for reading my books.

  5. The thing I love most about spring is the weather. Nicer. I am not a cold weather girl. I like the sunshine.

    1. Hi Jackie,
Ha! I’m not a hot-weather girl. When I start to sweat, I get cranky. It’s one of the reasons I love Colorado. It may get warm, but it doesn’t get hot, and usually, it’s not sticky. Have a fabulous weekend and thanks for reading my books.

  6. While I really like the flowers and trees blooming part of spring, that is really nice (not so much if you have allergies though), not having to wear a jacket anymore is also a bonus of the season.

    1. Hi Janet,
I’m about to go through my jackets and put up the really heavy-duty ones. We had snow this morning, so I know not to put up all my jackets just yet, but I’m starting. Have a fabulous weekend and thanks for reading my books.

    1. Hi Anita,
Me too!!! I’m so ready to see blooming flowers. Our neighbor, who lives here only part-time, planted daffodil bulbs and every Spring his yard is filled with flowers. He’s not here to enjoy them, but we are. I send him photos and tell them how pretty they are. Have a great weekend and thanks for reading my books.

    1. Hi Debby,

  8. I love the warm temps, and we have a large veggie and flower beds, can’t wait to start planting,

    1. Hi Vicki,
I love warm temps, but not HOT temps. We woke up to snow this morning and tonight we’re supposed to possibly break the record of low temperature. Nine is the current low temperature. I’m so ready for Spring. Have a fabulous weekend and thanks for reading my books.

    1. Hi Jerry,
I’m so JEALOUS. Here in Southwestern Colorado the only green is the pine trees. My tulips and daffodils are about three inches out of the ground. This morning, we woke up to snow. Thursday it was 63 degrees and today we haven’t made it out of the 30’s. Have a fabulous weekend and thanks for reading my books.

      Sylvia

    1. Hi Joye,
Sorry I’m so late in responding. I’ve been writing. Our tulips and daffodils are coming up, but today we woke up to snow and it has snowed off and on all day. Have a fantastic weekend and enjoy the wildflowers. They’re always my favorite.
